The Fleischer Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit incorporated both in The United States of America and The Republic of Kenya. It was established by Mr. Stephen A. Fleischer, who saw first-hand that most children from the slums of Nairobi do not have the financial resources to ever access higher education. The Foundation is beginning to break this cycle of poverty with the children of the Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum, one of the worst slums in Nairobi, with daily wages of less than $2 USD.
The foundation provides 100% high school and university scholarships to children selected as having the potential to reap the rewards from such an opportunity. In addition, the students attend mentorship workshops led by academic counselors, motivational speakers, and therapists. They are also paired with successful local and international mentors. This exposure allows the children to develop life skills and further their personal growth.
The foundation has also embarked on a project to build a high school of its own. The project has already broken ground and when complete, will provide a state-of-the-art educational facility to the same students from the Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum in Nairobi.
We are so proud to share this short film with you, and we are so proud of Shiprah, one of our sponsored students, for having the courage to share this particularly difficult time in her life. This film, we hope, will give you a glimpse of what it is like to live in a place like the Mukuru slum and some of the challenges that occur on a daily basis. But more importantly, we hope it shows you the kinds of amazing kids that we support. Take a look by clicking the above photo! Don’t worry, it is less than 3 minutes!
